Leader FAQs

» Does RYM require background checks on leaders & chaperones?

Yes. All leaders and chaperones (over 18 years old) are required to have BOTH of the following:

1. NATIONAL CRIMINAL BACKGROUND CHECK
2. MINISTRY SAFE CHILD SEXUAL ABUSE AWARENESS TRAINING

Please refer to the RYM Child Protection Guidelines for more information including links to each requirement. Deadlines for completing the national criminal background check and the Ministry Safe Child Sexual Abuse Awareness training are before you attend RYM as a chaperone.

» When can I start registering my group? How do I reserve space for RYM High School Colorado?

Churches can now reserve spots for any RYM summer conference via the 2017 RYM Summer Conference Registration Form. Spots are first be secured by the church. Individuals need to be in communication with their church/group leader who will reserve spots through RYM. A $100/person deposit is required to reserve space. Deposit payments must be made to finalize your group reservation.

» Is the $100 per person deposit refundable? Transferrable?

No. The deposit is non-refundable and non-transferrable. If you drop your numbers/spots, the deposit of those unused spots cannot be refunded or applied toward the remaining balances. This applies even if you have registered for multiple RYM conferences.

» Are there ever any late fees for anything?

Yes. After May 1st, there is a $25 late fee incurred (per person in your group) for any remaining balance unpaid. If your group consists of 10 people, and you are late paying your remaining balance, your late fee would be 10 x $25 = $250. For a group of 25, your late fee would be 25 x $25 = $625.

» Can I make changes to my registration list?

Yes, you may exchange students or chaperones on your registration list. However, within two weeks of the conference (May 29th), you may only exchange a boy for a boy or a girl for a girl (because housing assignments will already be arranged). Please communicate clearly with the RYM Conference Coordinator about any changes.

» What about students who drop out? Do we still have to pay for their spot?

You only have to pay for the spot if they drop out within a week before the conference (June 5th). If they drop out before this timeframe (and you let us know), you can get a refund for that spot less the $100 non-refundable deposit. Again, please communicate clearly with the RYM Conference Coordinator about any changes to your roster.

» Where can I find all the forms my students have to fill out?

You can find all the necessary forms at the High School Colorado Info Hub.

» What age is considered high school? Who can come to HSCO?

For high school, rising 9th graders through graduating 12th graders can come to RYM. Rising 9th graders have the option to attend middle school or high school RYM, or both according to individual church needs. If you have any questions, please ask the RYM Conference Coordinator.

» Can chaperones bring children along?

No. No exceptions (unless your children are of the appropriate age to fully participate in RYM).

» Do I need both male and female chaperones?

If you are bringing both male and female students, you need both male and female chaperones.

» How many chaperones are required per group?

A ratio of 1 chaperone per 6 students is highly recommended. However, you know your students better than we do, so please use your best judgement.

» Can I request to stay with another group?

Yes, but since housing is tight, no guarantees can be made.

» I've vaguely heard about altitude sickness. What can be done to avoid this?

Altitude sickness is the effect of high altitude on humans, caused by acute exposure to low partial pressure of oxygen at high altitude. Dehydration due to the higher rate of water vapor lost from the lungs at higher altitudes may contribute to the symptoms of altitude sickness. Therefore, one of the primary ways to combat altitude sickness is by drinking water, and lots of it! It is suggested to begin drinking more water than normal (normal intake is suggested at 2-3 liters per day) as far out as two weeks before visiting a high altitude region. Water isn't always the answer, but it's a good start to help avoid the lingering headache associated with high elevations.

» What activities does RYM offer in the afternoons?
